Buncrana Credit Union Cup Final

Moville Celtic                3-1    Redcastle United

Credit Union Cup Winners 2010

Moville ended their season in style in glorious sunshine when they defeated a Redcastle side who struggled to get going at Maginn Park last week.In the early exchanges Eddie McIntyre was unlucky to see a goalbound volley deflect off a defender and over before at the other end Graeme Doherty fired over from just outside the area.On 13 minutes Moville saw a Joe Doherty corner break to Nigel McMonagle who controlled well but blazed over from sixteen yards. They took the lead on 25 minutes after Doherty flicked the ball on superbly for McMonagle who raced clear and calmly slid the ball past the advancing Gerard Crossan from fifteen yards.Minutes later a Ritchie McElhinney cross found Tony McGeady whose glancing header was brilliantly tipped around the post by Crossan diving to his left. From the corner another McGeady header was comfortably saved by Crossan.Redcastle responded and when Paul White in the Moville goal failed to claim a cross under pressure the ball fell to Raymond Campbell whose header was cleared away by McGeady.Redcastle went close again when an Andy Porter free found Seamus Doherty who headed just over.Moville broke swiftly and Doherty’s cross picked out PJ Barr whose  looping header was tipped over by the back tracking Crossan. Redcastle then spurned a great chance on the stroke of half time when a brilliant cross from the right by Jimmy Gallagher was parried by White to Porter who fired over from twelve yards with the goal gaping. On the resumption Moville went close again after Joe Doherty’s free from twenty five yards clipped the top of the bar. Redcastle responded with the introduction of Charlie McCormick and Ciaran McGrory and following great work by McCormick his cross found McIntyre at full stretch at the front post but he fired over from close range. They got back on terms on 65 minutes after White parried a deep cross allowing Porter to lob the ball across to substitute McCormick to fire to the net from seven yards. But Moville responded within minutes and Shane Canning’s free kick found the unmarked Declan McGuinness who stooped low to head past a hesitant Crossan from seven yards. At the other end a McIntyre volley from the edge of the area flashed just wide. Moville continued to press with great work by Barr finding McMonagle whose deep cross found Graeme Doherty but his half volley was brilliantly saved by Crossan who recovered to gather. Barr then fed McMonagle on the right and he cut in only to see his deflected effort superbly tipped over by Crossan. But Joe Doherty’s low corner somehow deceived the Redcastle defence and the ball crept in at the near post to send the Moville supporters delirious.Redcastle tried to respond but the closest they came was when Eamon Donnelly’s floated cross found McGrory whose glancing header shaved the post.Moville held firm to add the Buncrana Credit Union cup to the Ulster Junior cup.
